2Ge+her Talks About New TV Show
MTV-manufactured boy band parody 2Ge+her has turned a hilarious album and
film into a new series, tentatively titled 2Ge+her: The Series. Picking up where
the movie let off, the 30-minute show will debut on MTV this summer and begin
filming in June.
"Apparently, our ratings were so ridiculous that they felt it would be stupid not to
do a TV show," says actor Evan Farmer, who plays Jerry, "the heartthrob" in the
movie. "My personal feeling is that MTV has sort of failed in the TV show
department so far and this was a sure thing. They have already proven there is a
market for us."
In the spirit of the Monkees, the Beatles, and the Partridge Family, 2Ge+her: The
Series will follow Jerry, Q.T., Chad, Doug, and Mickey around as they live the
life a popular boy band, although the line between 2Ge+her's on screen popularity
and real life popularity is becoming decidedly thin.
But as far as becoming a "real" boy band, Farmer isn't so sure he's up for it. He
previously spent time in a Russian boy band called Nana and wants to concentrate
on his acting career. "We don't tour," he says. "We've got two or three songs we
can do live and do the personal appearances as we need to do it. We are a real
band on the radio -- our music is for real, we sing. I even wrote one of the songs.
But for the most part, at least for me, I consider myself an actor and that's where
I want to keep my focus."
2Ge+her: The Series will be written by Brian and Mark Gunn -- the same two
writers behind 2Ge+her. One advantage the Gunns will have that previous writers
and directors of The Partridge Family and The Monkees didn't have is the
combination of trained actors and musicians to work with.
"I think with us," Farmer says, "we have more options because we are all actors
and pretty accomplished musicians -- in the vein of boy bands, anyway."
