Riding off road bikes in South Africa, has its hazards,
broken bones bikes as well as tubes and tires.
This is how we fix a tear in a tire, way out in the middle of nowhere.
Take two big cable ties and secure the tube on either side of the tear,
tape it up and insert into tire. Pump up and ride.

Cableties are the only thing keeping my 1988 Saab on the road.
This car (with
over two hundred thousand miles) recently went from Michigan to Washington, a
trip of nearly three thousand miles in the dead of winter.
A prior front end mishap broke the grill, bumper and headlight mounts. Enter
cable ties! There are six cableties in use on the front of the car as seen in
the enclosed photo. Four hold the headlights in proper alignment, one the grill
in place, and another couple the bumper trim.
