Inuyasha: A hanyou (half demon, half human) as his father was a demon and his mother was a human. He had the desire for the Shikon
no Tama (Jewel of the four gods) so that he can become a full demon as he was teased since he was born as he didn't look like a proper human or demon. However, while
trying to get the Shikon no Tama, he fell in love with Kikyou, who was the guardian of the jewel. Since he is a hanyou, Inuyasha becomes a human at a certain time every month, and that
is when his dog ears disappear and he gets black hair (second picture above)
Kagome: A girl from the modern area, believed as the reincarnation of Kikyou as she too can shoot purifying arrows. In the beginning she fell in the bone settler's well and went 500 years back to the sengoku jidai (ancient era)
and met Inuyasha. She has the ability to sense the presence and whereabouts of the Shikon no Tama and is clearly hinted that she likes Inuyasha.
Miroku: Nearly always classified as the perverted monk, always asking any woman he sees to bear his child. However, he has a reason for this,
his family was cursed with the Kazaana (black hole in his right hand that sucks anything up) by Naraku many generations ago and it will eventually swallow him up
as well. Thus, he wants to have a child.
Sango: A Youkai (demon) exterminator. Her family were slaughtered by Naraku leaving her her younger brother Kohaku, but under his control. Sango hates Miroku
always being so perverted as she does have this secret admiration for him eventhough she hides it infront of him. She carries a huge boomerang called the "Hiraikostu" as her weapon to exterminate youkai
Shippou: A young fox youkai (demon). He is an orphan as his father was killed. He is a very weak fellow and always get bullied by Inuyasha, but luckily Kagome is always
on his side and punishes Inuyasha with a firm 'Osuwari' all the time. He knows a few tricks in order to protect himself, such as various illusions to get him out of bad situations.
Sesshoumaru: Inuyasha's brother. Unlike Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru is a full youkai. He has a follower called Jyakken (later explained) and he carries a sword called Tenseiga, which goes against the
Tetseiga that Inuyasha has in order to stop the two brothers from fighting (however, the two still doesn't realise this). The brothers are like enemies and they hate eachother a lot. Sesshoumaru has a really cool
personality, which makes him the ideal bishonen that everybody likes
Jyakken: The loyal follower of Sesshoumaru. He really respects Sesshoumaru even though sometimes he hits him or be impolite to him. He helps Sesshoumaru to protect Rin and tries to protect her even though he is not always successful
Kikyou: The miko (priestess) that was revived by a youkai in the earlier episodes. She and Inuyasha were once in love, but she was tricked by Naraku and killed as a result and hating
Inuyasha as Naraku took his form when stealing the shikon no tama from her. She is a really cool person and doesn't say much. Like Kagome she is able to shoot purifying arrows.
Naraku: A very powerful hanyou. He is the main reason every main character in the story are having problems, he wants to become a youkai and strives to get the shikon no tama (jewel of the four souls) and
risks lives of many that gets in his way. He has many siblings, such as Kagura, whom help him do dirty work
