Lurker Rush Strategy This strategy is still getting the bugs worked out of it, but it still extremely effective. This strategy should be used primarily against Terran and Protoss because they lack in immediate detectors, but it can still be useful against Zerg if they have little or no defense. Ok, first of all, you'll want to keep in mind that in the first five minutes, you NEVER want to have any extra minerals. Extremely fast growth is necessary, so you'll want to practice this strategy a little bit. Anyways, all 4 drones and the next 3 trained drones should begin mining. You'll want to remember to always be training every possible drone at the start of the game. As soon as the money comes in, immediately build a spawning pool and an extractor. Then, begin creation of an overlord. You'll have a little leeway on the unit limit because you just built 2 buildings. Next, you'll want to create 3 more extractors because you'll need the vespine gas very soon. As soon as the first extractor and the following ones are completed, place 1 drone on each. At this point, you'll have enough gas to hopefully last the rest of the game if the rush is successful. You'll want to continue to train drones to mine as necessary As the resources comes in, build 2 more hatcheries, a hydralisk den, and begin upgrading 2 hatcheries into hives. Then, as soon as possible, upgrade the lurker ability at the hydralisk den, and upgrade overlord movement and transport capabilities at the two hives. At this point, you should have the following buildings: 1 Hatchery, 2 Hives upgrading overlords, 4 Extractors with 1 drone on each, 1 Spawning Pool, 1 hydralisk den upgrading lurker ability, and a bunch of drones doing minerals. As soon as you have enough drones mining, you'll want to begin training hydralisks (even if the lurker ability isn't complete) and overlords. 10 lurkers *should* be enough to decimate the enemy base, so you'll need 5 overlords. As soon as you have that, put the lurkers in the overlords, move the overlords next to the enemy's minerals, drop, burrow, and kill. If you can destroy the Command Center/Nexus/Hatchery next to the minerals, you have essentially stopped the enemy's growth. Most likely, though, you'll be able to destroy the entire base with ease.
I was able to drop 10-14 lurkers into an enemy base in about 8 minutes. If anybody else is able to do it faster, please submit your strategy. I suggest you download the example replay (against 1 Terran computer) and examine it closely. That way, you'll be able to get the big picture. [Download a Replay of this Strategy] T-Diggity |
