Computer Security
This is my first website, so don't expect anything fancy. This site aims to provide an insight into computer security. It only covers the basics though, so you probably know most of it already. If you want a more detailed site, which covers all aspects of computer security, from antivirus and firewall protection, right down to secure file deletion and proxy servers then I suggest you click here or visit this URL: http://computer-security.no-ip.info
Common Sense
When it comes to security, always use common sense! Think to yourself - could someone exploit this to access my computer or infect my files with a virus? Never run executable email attachments or attachments with double extensions - they will be viruses. Never download files from suspicious web sites, e.g. sites hosting warez or pirated software or music etc.
Patches
A very important thing one needs to do to improve security is to ensure that they have the most up-to-date patches for their software. You should visit windows update at least once a week. Microsoft have a very bad reputation amongst computer security experts due to the large number of vulnerabilities which exist in their software, so it is essential that you frequently check for patches!
Firewall
You should always have a properly configured firewall enabled and installed on your computer. I would recommend Kerio Personal Firewall due to its advanced rules and system protection features. Kerio is also free for home users! Tiny Personal Firewall 5 is also highly recommended as it has many features, however the interface is not very user friendly and can be hard to learn at first, so it is easy to make incorrect configurations which could compromise your security.
AntiVirus
This is the most obvious protection feature. You must use an up-to-date virus scanner that has a good heuristic engine. I would recommend NOD32 for this purpose. NOD32 is the fastest and most accurate antivirus scanner available. It has more VB100% awards than any other product and has never missed an ITW (In the wild) virus since 1998! It truly is an amazing program.
An Anti-Trojan scanner is also very important for users who want maximum security. Most antivirus scanners will detect some trojans, but AV scanners are mainly designed to detect viruses, not trojans. To detect more trojans, you should use an up-to-date anti-trojan scanner like TDS-3. TDS-3 is the best anti-trojan scanner I have ever used, and I highly recommend it to others.

This is the Gibson Research Corp website. Here you can scan your ports with Shields-Up and test the security of your firewall with leaktest.
This site is similar to GRC.com as it allows you to test the security of your computer.
