          On Match Day

Parking and transport

On Match day, N17 is a very crowded place to be. Most fans either take the train or drive to Spurs. If driving it is advisable to park a short way from the ground (10-15 min walk), as driving is infuriating close to the ground and finding a parking space is near impossible.

The Walk

Street traders

Walking from White Hart Lane station, you will walk past a number of stalls selling programs, Spurs Monthly, scarfs, hats and many other items of merchandise. Most of these people are just honest men and women looking to make a few extra quid, and the programs are the official things, so you shouldn't have any fear of buying from these people. The t-shirts, scarfs etc. are cheaper aswell and the Spurs shop is crowded so it is probably advisable to buy smaller things like these from the stalls.

Ticket sellers

In my experience, it is unadvisable to buy from these people. The tickets will be extortinately priced and there is the possibility they will be fake. If you have spare tickets, then these people are a good way to offload them for some extra cash, but they are unlikely to give you full price, more like half-price, so try not to get in this situation. If you really need a ticket and its 2:55, then you could take your chances. Remember, there may be some tickets left at the official ticket office, so check there first. Of course, you can't sell tickets back to the official ticket office.

Food and Drink

I have dedicated a section to this topic, Pre-Match. This section rates all the main cafes, restaurants, pubs and fast-food takeouts. The prices in the ground for food and drink are stupidly high, so if you want any drinks (non-alcoholic) or small food items (crisps, confectionary) then the staff on the gates are very unlikely to stop you taking them in. Cans and Glass bottles are not allowed though, and you will be asked to leave them outside.

Families

If you are part of a family with younger children, then it is advisable you keep them close to you at all times. Pre and Post-match, the pubs just near the ground can get very raucus, and the crowds are tightly packed and fast-moving. As far as I know, there have been no problems in this subject, but I have seen a few lost kids with police (there are a lot of mounted police around the ground), so try not to let it be one of your family.

The Game

Once inside the ground, you should be able to easily find your seat. There are many staff on hand to help you if you have any problems.

Smoking

Smoking is permitted inside the ground, so some people near you may smoke. If this causes a problem for you, you should make it known to the person in a polite manner. If this method fails then please inform a steward.

Pre-match

Before the match, there is always a show on the jumbotrons at the South and North Ends. These are huge television screens which replay moments during the game and show the game, TV style. Before the match, info is given on the opposition and of the Spurs team for the game. Food and drink can be purchased from the alcoves leading into the seating. There is a betting stall and a bar selling beer. It is advisable to get to the ground around 2:00 - 2:30 pm on a Saturday (if you already have tickets, in which case be there at 12:30pm when the ticket collection offices open or 10am when the ticket purchasing office opens). Arriving then allows you ample time to take your sits ready to enjoy the match. (Times differ according to kick off.)

Kick Off

Overall, the game should be very enjoyable. There will be some inevitable swearing and abuse given by fans towards players, officials and the opposition fans. The game lasts 90 minutes with it split into two halves of 45 mins each. There is a 15 minute interval - half time. Around 10 mins into the match, the bar shuts, and after half time the remainder of the shops shut, so all food and drink should be bought by this time.

Post Match

After the match, you should make your way out of the ground, following the crowds. Once outside the ground, the huge crowds can be a bit disorientating, but don't dispair. The direction of the crowds is probably the best one to follow, as this is heading towards the train and bus stations.

Overall, I hope you have an enjoyable day.
