old webpages/webdesigns
just push play, one of my earliest aerosmith layouts.

:: permanent hiatus ::

i've reached the age where there's nothing of substance left to be said; and thus i won't be writing in my blog for some time to come. trivialities and mundane matters don't really bother me now, anyway; and these days i can hardly be bothered with prolific displays of sheer verbosity. how do you say good-bye to an old and treasured friend? =X i don't rightly know; but i'm just grateful for the people i've come to know better through writing, namely neek and sharon. i used to talk to risse for a while long ago, and there was a time when i was closer to sophia and brennan, but lately there's been nothing much to say; and saying something for it's own sake seems kinda dumb, doesnt it. so the status quo remains.

my portfolio is still up here on show, though - take what pleasure you can derive from it. it's been nice knowing you.

:: old webpages/webdesigns ::

i've been dabbling occasionally in webdesign whenever time and interest permits, ever since i learnt about html tags at the tender age of 12. thus over the years i've managed to accumulate a plethora of musty, old designs; some downright amateur and child-like in form, others a little more stately and presentable, but all not so very outstanding, quality-wise. much of that's due to the fact that i've only recently gotten up to date with some of the newer coding methods, such as css and asp; thanks to my iweb module in poly. some of these layouts are mirrored on crush, some of them are layouts i created and didn't deem good enough for the limelight, while others have been lingering on my hard drive gathering dust ever since they were created. ahhh, such is the price of failure; for you see, no artist can be that perfect. did not mary shelley have her frankensteins; was not albert enstein misunderstood as a child? but layouts were made to be seen; and i hear their shrill, mindless protests day and night, clamoring for an eager viewer, for an appraisal of their qualities. perhaps you might be so inclined to flip through; and see how my style has developed over time... that is if i can be said to have a style at all... *grins* =)

 asp code
the ribooking classroom reservation system, my xlab 1999 asp coding project.
:: asp code ::

i first learnt way back in xlab during my sec3 year (it was considered an emerging technology then, lol =P) and i must say it's put me in good stead since. it's been a pretty rocky love affair over the years, (love at first sight in sec3, break-up in sec4 for the Os, patch-up in j1 year) but i've managed to mantain a working knowledge of the language through a few projects during my 2 6-month breaks while waiting for poly. though perhaps not as versatile as java or some of the other emerging technologies out there, i still can use it to code simple, working web-based applications; and that's good enough for me. in fact, the guestbook for this very page was hard-coded personally (no public guestbooks here, heh =P), and i once even created a mini-blog input system (something like blogger, but totally independent) and put it to use on crush, my former (and now defunct) webpage. a pity that it was discontinued due to lack of space for the database =) *grins* i don't consider myself an asp expert, since i only have a rudimentary command of vbscript, and most of the methods i use are very basic in nature; but they are sufficient to code some pretty complicated applications. it's amazing what asp can do when you integrate it all together; the database, the application, and the html browser all working as one; it's somewhat different from coding static webpages or creating layouts. more kick, as they would say =)

the code samples you'll see in this library use very basic methods (response.write etc) and usually merely read and write to databases, but you'll be surprised at how complicated simple operations like that can even get. asp files are openable in notepad, just like html files (though you'll need personal web server/nt server to run them), so why not go ahead and have a look?

 major projects
thespark, an e-learning portal created as my end-of-semester project last term. it features various communication applications, including an icq emulator and online music browser.
:: major projects ::

ahhh, the stuff that dreams are made of. in this section lie the major projects, those huge behemoths that i expanded so much of my precious time and lifeblood to create. more often than not, i was forced to do so; or else who would be crazy enough to code something as tedious as these? few of my projects ever make it to this section, and the select ones that do deserve to be glorified like there's no tomorrow. perhaps these projects are the best examples of how your time and energy should not be spent =P
