Lisa B Vs Mosaic – Fascinated 99 (Motiv8ted mix)

01

This uses the Motiv8 mix of Nothing In The World by Mosaic and Lisa B’s version of Fascinated.  It’s nothing special and at that time I didn’t have all the techno wizardry I have now so you can tell the vocal has been slowed down.  However it works ok I suppose.

Pulp Victim Vs Danny Tenaglia – Music Is The Dream

02

This mix hasn’t really had a lot put into it.  It’s just basically Pulp Victim's excellent Dreams Last For Long tune with Danny Tenaglia's Music Is The Answer vocal over it and a bit of re-sequencing of a section of it.  This tune is good and was posted on quite a few websites with some positive feedback.  It really is very simple but the vocal really goes well with this, even if it is really just a loop.

Jennifer Lopez Vs Watergate – Waiting For Tonight In Asia

03

This one was played to death when I put it out over the web and at www.homeofmusic.com.  It basically is Watergates Heart of Asia mixed with Jennifer Lopez ‘s Waiting for Tonight.  Every other pub & club was playing it and it also made it onto some big radio shows.  It ended up being pressed up by a few bootleggers and turned up on a few dodgy European compilation albums which helped exposure it but people didn’t know who had really mixed it.  Unfortunately it was mixed using an mp3 as it was well before the Watergate tune was released and that’s all I could get.  There was also a bit of confusion that the Friday Night Posse guys had done it as it ended up on the back of one of their bootleg releases.  It’s just a pity no one asked me for the wav as it didn’t transfer back to mp3 again very well.  I have since also done a radio mix of this tune by the way.

N-Trance Vs Watergate – Set U Free In Orleans

04

While searching for a new backing track for the classic Set You Free by N-Trance, I came across another Watergate mp3.  This is basically a remake of OMD’s  Maid of Orleans, and it fitted perfectly.  I did try to get hold of a CD as the mp3 rip was pretty crap to be honest but ended up just putting up with it.  Anyway, needless to say this was quite well received and also got some play in the clubs despite the slight low quality of the final tune.

Des Mitchell Vs Lange – I Believe In the Dance

05

I liked the Des Mitchell tune Welcome to the Dance very much when it was out but I always thought it would suit a vocal.  The Believe vocal came from a magazine cover disk as the Lange tune was part of a remix competition, and to be honest I really hated the vocal as it was pretty dull.  I only really mixed this because I could and not because I thought it sounded better.  On playing back the mix now I actually think it’s quite good, as once you get use to the vocal it starts to haunt you a bit.

Afrika Bambaataa Vs Tall Paul – Free Punnany

06

Using the Freebase tune from Tall Paul mixed with the slightly daft vocals that are Afrika Bambaataa’s  Pupunnany I came up with this mad tune.  This was just for fun and only ever got played by me at the time.  Now that I have heard the Pupunanny vocal used to death in other mixes, I’ve came to the conclusion that it wasn’t that bad after all.

Pulse Vs Nalin & Kane – Beachball Lover (Mixmachine's extended mix)

07

The original bootleg of this tune surfaced on the web ages ago and was done by someone else but I couldn’t get a decent quality copy for love nor money.  It was also too short so was useless to mix with.  I decided the best thing to do was try and remake it and extend it, at least at the outro so I could mix with it.  So that’s exactly what I done.  Both the Nalin & Kane Beachball and the Pulse - The Lover That Your Are tunes came from the web.  Hats off to whoever thought of mixing these top tunes.  Pity you didn’t extend it a bit in the first place.

Tony De Vit Vs Kathy Brown – Turn Me Out At Dawn

08

Tony De Vit was a big influence on the dance scene then he went and kicked the bucket….I used to play his tune The Dawn all the time and still do sometimes just because it was a great reminder of being full of it on a packed dancefloor going mental, years ago.  For some unknown reason I though Kathy Browns – Turn Me Out vocal would mix quite well with it, fuck knows why!, a soul vocal over an NRG / Hard House type tune like this should have been just stupid.  This mix was a pain in the arse as I remember.  My PC was playing up and crashed all the time. In the end up it turned out quite good, apparently ever TDVs prodigy Fergie apparently played it when he was still a raver.  I even heard it played at the Arches in Glasgow one night.  I received loads of nice comments about it.  The original mp3 that was on the web wasn’t ripped very well the stereo got lost a bit but now I’ve now re- eq’d it and ripped it again and it sounds much better.

Olive Vs Lightforce – Join Me, If your Not Alone!

09

This was done during another stoned night.  The Olive vocal came from an acapella album and was pretty crap quality to begin with.  The Lightforce tune came from an mp3.  It was really just made up for something to do one night, but it turned out so well that I sent it to some people over the web and via CDR.  The mp3 on the web was crap quality and the vocal got distorted a bit due to my setup at that time not being able to do a lot with a low quality vocal.  I didn’t have all the stuff I have now to fix it . I always meant to go back and do this tune properly as it is one of my favourite mixes.  I’ve never really got round to it yet but maybe one day I will.

Whitney Houston Vs Alice Deejay – It's Not Right But It's Ok, Who Needs Guitars Anyway?

10

Big title for a big tune, well big if you like cheesy euro HINRG!  This tune basically is an extended version of the Alice Deejay album track with Whitney’s It’s not right vocal through it.  This was pretty hard to mix as her bloody vocal was all over the place and didn’t fit very well as it was – what was she on for god’s sake – nah don’t answer that LOL.  With a bit of cut & paste, echo and re-sequencing of some vocal stabs along with the longer version of the Alice Deejay tune it turned out really well.  This tune is pretty much like a cheesy Flip n Fill remix but I think it is very good.

Yazoo Vs Nigel Gee – Don’t Go Hootin`

11

Went out and bought a few acapella albums one day and Yazoo ’s (Yaz in the ) Don’t Go was one of the pellas.  I wanted to do a HINRG or hard House type of thing with it but all I could find was the Nigel Gee – Hootin Happy (Or is it Harry? never did find out) tune.  Mixed this in about 4 hours burned it to CDR then went to the pub got pissed and have never really bothered with it since.  I was in some dodgy pub one night in Glasgow and they played it.  So I’ve dug it out from storage once again.

George Morel Vs Madison Avenue - Who The Groove Are You?

12

George Morel done a tune years back called The Groove.  This was ripped off big style by Gordon’s Groove when the Lonnie Gordon thing came out.  Basically that was just the same tune with Lonnie’s vocal over it.  Anyway just to confuse people I wanted to use the original tune.  I still think that bass line and snare is wicked even today.  So what better than to mix the vocals of Madison Avenue’s Who The Hell Are You into it  Everyone on the planet seems to have messed around with the Don’t Call Ma Baby vocal so I just wanted to be different.  Turned out pretty mediocre in the end so I’m told, but I LIKE IT so fuck you all…   haha.

Soulsearcher Vs Darude –  Can’t Get Enough Sandstorm

13

I think this title was used on a couple of other mixes with these two songs. Anyway I didn’t use the normal mix of the Darude - Sandstorm tune, I used one of the remixes just for a change.  The Soulsearcher vocal goes really well with it, and I like this one a lot.  I done a wee bit of re sequencing with this one too just for fun, you’ll hear the “I” stutter in the middle 8.  I think this is not too bad.

Lock n Load Vs DJ Misjah & DJ Tim – Access Ya Mind

14

The Access tune by Tim & Misjah was huge when it was out and was ripped off countless times, more noticeably by Almighty who put out a remix of Baby Don’t Cha Leave Me This Way by Royal T, funnily enough the version before it was a complete copy of James Brown Is Dead by LA Style.  Anyway I digress again... after some fucking about with the lock and load remix I ended up with the vocal from it.  I also ripped part of the synth (one note to be precise) and used it to re sequence a part to put in the mix.  The result was good and I’m quite proud of this one.

DJ Sakin & Friends Vs Delirium (Sarah McLachlan) – Protect Your Silence.

15

I get stoned once in a while and this is one of those times.  My mate Del was on my decks mixing and playing all the older tunes lying about in my room that just don’t get played much now.  He played the DJ Sakin – Braveheart tune followed by the Delerium – Silence tune and mixed them so well that I still had the first tune in my head.  I realized I had the Sarah McLachlan vocal somewhere so I got to work and 2 days later I had produced this.  Loads of people liked this and again this turned up on vinyl by some bootlegger claiming he had mixed it so it was played in clubs and on radio.  Juno records were also selling it….stupid bastards, don’t they realize it’s just a 192 bit mp3 that’s been downloaded from p2p and pressed to crap quality vinyl?  Only I have the wav and it’s not for sale.  If you ever see any of these Vs bootlegs, be sure before you buy them that you are not just lining the pockets of these rip off bastards.  Anyway…I digress…. This is still a top tune, even if the vocal is the original version and not the same one used on the delirium tune.

Trisco Vs Todd Terry – Weekend Muzak

16

It took me ages to realize where the HINRG bass loop came from in Trisco’s Musak I originally though I was either Giorgio Moroder or Patrick Cowley. It ended up being Sparks – The Tryout For The Human Race which prompted me to listen to loads of old stuff like Sparks and Yello for a couple of weeks, which was excellent for a change.  nyway I decided I should try and put a vocal with the Trisco tune just for the sake of it so I came up with this, really just an excuse to listen to the same tune a bit longer.  ut after a while I was sick to death of it and wished I had not used so much vocal.

Shiller Vs the Course – Ain`t No Glockenspiel

17

Has anyone got the Chaka Khan acapella of Aint Nobody?  I  know there is one, it was on a remix album in the 80`s.  Anyway I just had to settle for the cover version, which is also pretty good.  I fuckin’ hate that Das Glockenspiel tune by Shiller I thought I was a pile of shite, but I used it anyway, just because I knew this vocal would go with it quite well.  The end result was actually quite good, this was one of the first tunes I started to use a lot of effect in, although you may not notice, but the vocal was compressed and filtered a bit.

Madonna Vs Agneli & Nelson – Everday Music

18

I used the original version of the Agneli & Nelson tune and not the reissued remix a year later.  I think that I had to rearrange it a bit to make everything fit in.  The Madonna vocal again came from an mp3 on the web but was clean enough to use.  In all I think quite like this mix, I just wish that everyone and his brother hadn’t used the vocal too.  This acapella next to Madison Avenue and Rachel Macfarlane has to be one of the most overused vocals ever.  Pity really as my mix is not too bad, but hardly anyone will bother with it as there are now hundreds of other bootleg mixes out there already.

Kylie Minogue Vs Ann Lee – Ring My Head

19

Just done this for fun, as everyone had done a crap CGYOOMH mix and I just wanted to add another one to the ever growing number of them.  Nothing much better or worse than any of the others in here i’m afraid, I just extended Kylies CGYOOMY to make room for another vocal, and stuck Ann Lees version of Ring My Bell in it.  I then added some church bells at the ding dong bits as it was a bit bare.  I also done a bit of a trick with the Kylie vocal, as the Ann Lee Vocal had a bit of delay in it, I ripped the Kylie vocal used the Analogue X Vocal remover to get the drums out and then added it back I beat out of step to create a delay, added some effect to it to flange and pan it and it sounded a bit better, put it through a 3D surround shaper plugin and it sounded distant and even better sitting along side the Ann Lee one.  See I told you this lark was dead easy….

Madonna Vs Sonique – Put a Frozen Spell On You

20

When the Sonique – Put A Spell On You tune was out I knew that Madonna’s Frozen vocal went near perfectly with it, the only problem was trying to get an acapella of Frozen.  About a year later I picked up Frozen by Madonna from www.acapella.heaven.tk which turned out to be a cover version by someone called Patty apparently (what kind of fuckin’ name is that !!!  Have you ever tried to type Frozen Patty into a search engine??….LOL )  Anyway by the time I had mixed this and shoved it on the web, it was too late…so it should really be Patty Vs Sonique………..but fuck that for a game of soldiers………… Madonna it will just have to stay.

Madonna Vs JX – Son Of A Ray Gun

21

Someone done quite a good mix of Madonna Vs JX a while ago using a remix and I decided to try and mess about with the original JX tune just for something to do one night.  The end result was pretty dire I have to say - I shouldn’t have bothered!  LOL.

Clubhouse Vs Copycat – Light My Fire

22

Not got a clue where this Copycat tune came from, it was so long ago.  However, mixed the classic PWL Light My Fire vocal through it and made it into a good wee dance tune.  This is another tune that seems to have turned up on a few compilation CDs lately.  I’m a bit surprised as the Copycat tune is quite old now, but hey ho…!!

Rank 1 Vs Donna Adams - True Love Never Dies (Mixmachine's re-mastered mix)

23

The Rank One Vs Kylie/Donna Adams/whoever tune was so good that AATW just had to cover it.  Covering a bootleg which was actually a cut and paste vocal to make it fit to the Rank One tune? It all seems a bit weird. Anyway, as the quality of the original mp3s for this bootie were a bit crap at the time, I decided to make my own.  It sounds almost identical to the original bootie only a bit better quality.  I like this tune very much, again, hats of to whoever mixed this originally, you have given me many a drunken night listening to this tune.

Tag Team Vs Lock N Load - Blow Ya Whoomp (Mixmachine version

24

I only done this as a guy at work asked if I had it.  I said nope, but could knock together a wee mashup in no time.  Next day I gave him this.  Lost your number Peter. If you ever read this, hope your doin’ OK matey.

Sylvester Vs Yomanda - Mighty Real Synths & Strings (Mixmachine version)

25

Yet again another bootie I have blagged.  I do have original ideas too you know. LOL. I just knocked this together for a mix CD I had done for someone, so I mastered the complete track also as it was quite good.  Much like the original bootie that was getting  played in the clubs, only I changed the vocal a wee bit here and there.

Shakira Vs Britney Spears - Hit Me Baby Wherever, Whenever

26

This one was done to settle a drunken argument.  I was slagging of that Shakira bird as here tune at the time was a direct rip off of Britney’s One More Time.  No one would believe me as the production is obviously different, but the vocal…..that’s another story.  Anyway, once I had sobered up, I very quickly knocked this together just to settle it.  I am sure you will agree that Shakira sings the same bloody song.  This took about 30 mins to put together, don’t expect a masterpiece.

Tina Cousins Vs Cascade - Nothing To Fear At Altitude

27

Not got a clue when this was done, it must have been ages ago.  Not the best produced bootie in the world as it came from a crap mp3 to begin with, but still is not bad.  I really should have mastered this properly as this would have made a top trance mix.

Craig David Vs Dario G - Fill Me Carnival In

28

Top chin Craig David’s classic Fill Me In acapella over Dario’s footie anthem.  That’s about it.  This is nothing special, however the pella goes really well, although a bit of mastering to get the sound a bit better should have been done.  I really just don’t get enough time to do these the way I would like.

Christina Aguilera Vs Siobhan Fahey - Dirrty Bitter Pill

29

Siobhan Fahey was in Bananarama and Shakespeare’s Sister – she’s the weird one.  Apparently she still makes the odd album, odd being the definitive word.  Bitter Pill was out a while ago. Quite a simple electro HINRG type tune with her god awful vocal over it. An instrumental version turned up one day and so I decided i’d better stick a real singer on it just to brighten it up a bit.  There are loads of Christina mixes out but this one it a little bit different.  I quite like it.

Dead Or Alive Vs Silvio Ecomo - Sex Drive 2004 (Pete burns his lips mix)

30

Outrageous Pete Burns from 80s PWL group Dead or Alive is apparently still alive.  I would prefer to mix Spin Me Round but there is no complete pella so this will have to do.  This has to be the stupidest vocal I have ever used and this is as low as it gets.  You have been warned. LOL.

CC Penniston Vs DJ Flex - Finally Lonely (Life’s a bitch mix)

31

I really like the DJ Flex - Lonely track and I can’t wait to find a vocal for his other top tune called Amazing.  The Finally acapella needs no introduction as there can’t be a person alive who hasn’t heard that classic tune.  Anyway, I think this turned out quite good. It’s quite bouncy and better than some of the crap remixes of Finally that have been out recently.

Madonna Vs Donna Summer - I Feel A Beautiful Stranger (Mixmachine’s spiced up mix)

32

I found a mashup of Donna Vs Madonna on the web and it was quite good but the I Feel Love vocal ruined it a bit.  I decided to try my hand at a similar mix but halfway through decided to drop the Donna vocals altogether and just keep the classic Georgio bassline subdued in the background.  I really just wanted to make the Madonna track a bit more full. I also added another drumtrack.  Its all pretty subtle and I might add some more vocals to it one day.

Olive Vs Mauro Picotto - Outlaw the Komodo

33

For fuck sake, this tune is amazing.  Am I’m normally quite modest LOL.  A remix of the Picotto tune appeared one day (Don’t even know if it’s an official one) and it blew me away.  I really had to try and add a vocal to it.  After farting about with a load of pellas, I realised that my very favourite pella ever, ever, ever Olive’s Outlaw fitted perfectly. So needless to say I am very proud of this and love it to death, I never get tired listening to it and oh! In case you ever wondered a Komodo is a type of lizard, almost like a dragon.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor Vs Eric Prydz & Steve Angello - Get Over Woz Not Woz

34

Well I was quite surprised to see that an acapella of little Miss Blue Peter’s offspring had been released. I actually now have another too which I might use later!. SEB is quite cool and crap all at the same time.  Her vocal in a pure London accent is quite original these days, well for a bird anyway.  Some of her tunes have been a bit dodgy though.  However, mixed this with Woz not Woz and added some extra effects and beefed up the crowd sample a bit, the result was quite good.  Not many SEB booties out there so this is a bit special.

Justin Timberlake Vs Milk & Sugar - Like I Love The Sunshine

35

I was listening to the Milk & Sugar tune on the radio one night and immediately knew the Justin T vocal would go quite well with it. I mixed this very quickly and basically left it as it was without any dodgy effects or anything through it.  The result was very good indeed.  I have since discovered that another bootie person had also done this, but I didn’t know at the time.  Just shows you, great minds think alike and all that   LOL.

Coco Vs Flower Power - I Need A Flower Power Miracle

36

Well what can I say about this?  Not much really.  Everyone and their Granny has messed about with this acapella and I just thought I’d do a wee mix too, just for fun.  It is basically Flower Power, without Dannii Minogue but Coco instead.  It actually works quite well and I quite like this wee tune of an evening.

Marvin Gaye Vs Weekender - Sunday Sexual Healing Session

37

Heard the Weekender tune years ago when it was on a mag cover CD and always thought it was class. Very simple and lovely guitar.  I don’t really know what possessed me to dig it out again and add a vocal, must have been feeling a bit nostalgic I suppose but it turned out quite good.  A bit more mellow than other tunes I have messed about with and I especially like the “Masturbate” bit at the end – you need to hear it to understand.

Ralphie Rosario  Vs Joachim Garraud - You Used To Rock Me

38

Who? What? I hear you say.  Well you may or may not know who these to tunes are by but I am sure you will know the vocal, even if it is just because Capella sampled it a few years ago.  The Joachim Garraud tune is superb, very electro with some nice original sounds.  The vocal fits very well with it and I’m sure everyone will like it.

Usher Vs Herd & Fitz - I Just Cant Yeah Enough

39

What is the big hype around the Herd & Fitz tune? I think it’s quite boring actually.  That is why I decided to mix it with a decent vocal and I must say it turned out great.  The Usher pella goes so well with this that it sounds so much better that the real vocal from the original.  Get this, or be very square!!!

Kylie Minogue Vs The Soulseekerz - Spinning Around Upside Down

40

Right before anyone else asks – I DO NOT HAVE A PELLA for Spinning Around.  I do however have hundreds of pounds worth of crap on my PC which can re-eq a track and make the vocal stand out. Now that that’s out the way….While making up a mix CD recently I came up with the last 3 mixes, the Ralphie Rosario, Usher and Kylie ones.  I later went back and created the proper mixes.  The Kylie backing track was quite a big club hit and is basically Turn the Beat Around by the late great Vicki Sue Robinson.  The Kylie vocal mixes in quite well although, it’s not perfect.  I added loads of effects to this and really went to town with it.  The result is really good.  I have now discovered that Kylie’s wee sis Dannii is releasing a new track based on the same Soulseekerz track – how about that for a coincidence – I really should put a lottery ticket on LOL.  Anyway, not heard her new one yet but I hope it mixes well with mine. I have since remastered this and reduced the stereo field a bit.  It now sounds better, much better…..

Till next time,  over and out.
