In essence, these were not military acts of aggression, but the latest and worst acts in a philosophical war. Though directed against American buildings and citizens, these attacks were really aimed at America's core ideas and values: reason, self interest, individualism, and happiness. The kamikaze terrorists were--not coincidentally--motivated by the exact opposite of these American ideas: faith, self-sacrifice, collectivism, and human misery on earth. The Ayn Rand Institute is engaged in a battle against the dangerous and irrational ideas underlying terrorism.
