Latin Latin was spoken by the Romans, who had an empire stretching out from Britain to Morocco, to Egypt and Turkey, all around the Mediterranean Sea. Today Latin is only spoken in the Vatican and in some ceremonies of the Roman Catholic church, however a lot of people learn Latin because it is the basis of all Romance languages and has influenced other languages, too. Latin is written with the Latin (English) alphabet without special characters. There are debates about its pronunciation.
