I was at Halls Gap in the Grampians on this weekend, and had no idea of the weather forecast for the 24th. I was pleasantly surprised to see some Cu drifting over the ranges by 2pm. I left for Hamilton at 3:30pm very interested in seeing what was coming from the west. With help from some updates from Jane, I intercepted the storms as they moved in just east of Dunkeld. Somehow I doubt I kept to the speed limit on the way from Halls Gap to Dunkeld!
I parked the car about 5kms east of Dunkeld in the path of what looked like the best storm around. There seemed to be a narrow line of storms forming along the trough, moving SE. When the main line hit I encountered several Cgs, including a couple of flangs that sent me into the car just before it bucketed down. Visibility did get very low at one stage - no hail however.
I stayed and observed the line moving to the north of me for a while before heading back to Hamilton. An interesting shot below shows a triangular shaped cloud above a forming Cb.
With the sun setting, it brought some nice colours to the Ac and Cu scattered sky. After the sun had set I witnessed lightning flashes every second at times in the NE sky as the line of storms continued eastwards.
