March 25th 2002

Today I observed some Tcu developing to the north of Coleraine, and a check of the satellite and  radar images confirmed a line of storms stretching from Waikerie to Keith in SA and through to Horsham in VIC. It was developing fast  so I headed off eastwards hoping to intercept the storms as they moved SE.
The first 2 images are of the storms developing to the north of Coleraine, the next 3 were taken between Hamilton and Dunkeld. I observed some strong Cgs over the Grampians from here.

By about Glenthompson I had reached the leading storm. The cloud cover had reduced photo opportunities somewhat, so I just parked the car east of the town and took in the beauty of the storm. I observed numerous Cgs--a couple of them crawling across the sky. For at least 15 minutes torrential rain fell, flooding the road in some places.  The rain eased a little so I continued through the storm to Lake Bolac. By then the storm had lost some intensity and lightning was now only Cc's. I decided to head back westwards and hope to get some nice shots of the back end of the storms. I also got a few shots of another storm developing to the north.
