This photo was taken at the McNear brickyard in San Rafael.
Looking down a long stack of bricks ready to be shipped. Formation is approximately 9-10 feet high. What originally attracted my eye was their brilliant red color (lost to the black and white film). This photo is so named because it reminds me of an old 1920's photograph of New York, minus the cars and people. A visual pun of a city, if you will. Make whatever connections you like.
Favorite Aspects: Form, light & shadow, ironic allusion to a city.
Enhancements / touch-ups: The scanner lost much of the original contrast and created a lot of streaks and grain. Most of the touch up work was spent correcting that. In order to remove some of the grain, the darker parts of the image had to be blurred a little.
