Upcoming for the Spring 2009 Semester:

We've got some great ideas for the upcoming spring semester and we hope that you will help us see these come to fruition. Some of our ideas include more movie showings (The Devil Came on Horseback, Darfur Now, and others), more presentations both at USM and around the community, and a Cultural Awareness week towards the end of the spring semester.

The Cultural Awareness week is a very exciting idea, where we hope to utilize groups across the campus and the community.

Please contact us if you have any additional ideas or would like to help us organize any of the aforementioned events. We greatly appreciate and welcome all help!

Walk for Darfur / Human Rights Torch Relay

Thank you to everyone who joined us in the march from Portland Hall to the Human Rights Torch Relay! The Human Rights Torch Relay turned out to be a huge success. There was a great crowd and lots of support. Both groups of Portland's Darfur refugees were there, including our speaker from the presentation on April 15th, Mansour Ahmed.

Thank you again for letting your voice be heard, and for those of you who were not able to make it, please stay updated for ways you can be active!

Guest Speaker Update

I am happy to report that the two speakers planning to present on April 15th are Mansour Ahmed and Marwa Arbab. Both are members of the Fur Cultural Revival group in Portland. Do not miss the opportunity to listen to their first-hand experiences in Darfur.

I am excited to report that we are expecting guest speakers from Portland's Fur Cultural Revival group for our Presentation on April 15th. They will be sharing their firsthand experience with the conflict. This is a wonderful opportunity for the audience to get a glimpse at what is really happening.
