Pausanias's Improved Henchman Mods for Neverwinter Nights ---------------------------------------------------------- TROUBLESHOOTING FAQ updated: September 10, 2002 Q0: I like your mods but I do not like X. Can I uninstall just X? A0: You can do this by re-running the setup program. Q1: I installed/upgraded to these mods correctly, extracting pausmods.exe to my correct override directory. However, after I installed/upgraded, I cannot manage the henchmen's inventory and/or the henchmen don't seem to be switching weapons when in missile mode and/or I am experiencing other strange behavior not described in the rest of this FAQ. A1: The first thing to do when the basic mod functions aren't working for you, before trying anything else, is to check ALL of the following. This goes whether you upgraded to a new version of the mods or are installing them for the first time: a) Do you have the no-CD crack? I do not have the no-CD crack and I have not tested these mods with the no-CD crack. Several people have said that the mods do not work with certain versions of the no-CD crack. b) Did you exit NWN completely before installing these mods? c) Did you download a zipfile containing any files with the extension ERF? If so, you have somehow managed to download the EXPERT'S version of the mods and this version will not work in the override directory. Please go to my web-site and download the version "For the Official Campaign." d) If everything above checks out, try a clean install: restore your original, 100% BioWare-approved override directory. Make double-sure that you are running a 100% BioWare-approved NWN. Re-download pausmods.exe from NWVault and re-install it in the 100% BioWare override directory, overwriting all files. e) If that doesn't work, message Pausanias at the BioWare forums. Q2: My henchman or other associate follows me but will not attack! A2: When you select "Follow," your associates will follow you but not attack. Select "Attack Nearest" or "Guard Me" to get them to break out of peaceful follow mode. Avoid the use of "Follow" unless it is to get them to follow peacefully. "Guard Me" always works the same way as "Follow," so try that instead if you are fond of clicking "Follow" all the time. Q3: When I select "Attack Nearest" my associate bashes/picks the nearest chest/door instead! This will happen only if the associate cannot see any monsters around, and yes, it is a feature. Q4: Can my henchman use magic wands, lock picks, musical instruments, trap kits, scrolls, rods, or any other gadgets that would not be directly equippable by a player character (besides potions)? A4: No. Q5: When I ask my henchman to show me his inventory, he tells me he has only one item when I know he has more than one. A5: The inventory is listed in the text window in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. This text window is EXPANDABLE: just click and drag on the title bar and you can make the window as large as you want. Try asking the henchman to show you his inventory after you expand this window and you should see a long list. Q6: Sometimes when I manage the inventory, all I get is a bag of holding with nothing in it. Other times, when I give a full bag of holding back to the henchman, he fails to equip anything! A6: This is benign; just try the whole procedure over again and it should work the second time around. Q7: I can't get my henchman to wield/dual-wield properly. A7: The henchman must first be proficient in the weapons you are trying to dual wield. Also, for some reason, the light flail (and possibly other weapons too) that should be dual-wieldable, aren't. Q8: I don't like the fact that I can take my henchman's expensive personal items and sell them. A8: Exercise some self-control and do not sell these items. Q9: I forgot to backup my override directory and now I can't update! A9: From time to time I will post 100% BioWare approved overrides on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pausaniasgroup. You need a Yahoo membership to access the files section. Q10: I tried to give my henchman an item, and I am quite sure it disappeared or changed into another item, because when I told him to show me his inventory, the item wasn't there or it had morphed into a different item! A10: This is a complicated problem which has a solution in some cases. The items disappear/morph because they have an invalid item tag. The invalid item tag problem occurs under two circumstances: a) The item is a bugged official campaign item. So far the only two such items I am aware of are the belt of inertial barrier and the massive dwarven plate. b) The item is a custom item you created yourself or aquired through adventuring in another campaign. In other words, the item wouldn't ordinarily appear in the official campaign. The way to fix this problem is to "export the item to override." BUT it will not work in all cases. WARNING: the following should work only if you do it BEFORE the item is actually created. The following should have NO effect for items that are already physically present somewhere in a module. For this you will need Zoligato's NWN Unpacker, available at http://vnfiles.ign.com/nwn/other/Zoligato01NwnPackerV0.1.zip Now, run the toolset. Open the module containing your custom item, or create a new module with a dummy area if you want to edit an official campaign item or want to create a new one. Now edit or create the item. When you're done, click on the "advanced" bar and give it a new blueprint name---say it's "pausitem"---save the module and close it. Open the module now with Zoligato's NWN Unpacker. Scroll through the custom resources. Eventually you will see something called "pausitem" and it will have "uti" in the Type column. Select "Resource" and then "Export" and export pausitem.uti to your override directory. Now go play the custom module and respawn the item---probably via a conversation tree. Then save your character and see if you can give the item to a henchman in the official campaign.
