Jean
is a member of the Buenaventura Art Association and Santa Paul Art
Society. Her paintings are realistic in oil, acrylic, and pastels,
using the old masters techniques to get the mystical qualities of
light that illuminates from within her paintings. Jean was born in
Arkansas and discovered very early in life, through the beauty of
the out doors, that she loved color. When she was nine years old she
spent nine months in the hospital with a broken kneecap. Going into
the hospital in the winter and coming out in summer, she then realized
the beauty of the trees, flowers and lakes that was her every day
life. It was the most beautiful sight she ever experienced, going
from bare trees and frozen ground to the beauty of summer with deep
shades of greens in trees, shades of blues and greens in lakes and
brilliant colored flowers that glowed from within. This gave Jean
an incredible respect for them. Now she says that she lives for color
and light.
One
day while playing with a new close-up lens on her camera she decided
to investigate some flowers. "I saw a whole new and incredibly beautiful
world of shape and movement, sort of like looking into a kaleidoscope."
That began a whole new artistic journey into painting and photographing
this amazing life. For several years she filled large books with the
magnified close-up images of flowers, seascapes, wildlife and nature.
But the time has come she says, to "put the beauty on greeting cards
and begin using symbolism to create more meaningful images on canvas."
Jean's
travels have taken her to such diverse places as public and private
gardens in Southern California, the Desert Botanic Gardens, many exotic
and tropical gardens from coast to coast, Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada,
and spends months at a time capturing the beauty that surrounds everyday
life that is a whole new joy and experience for her.
Jean's
paintings have already won awards, and she has donated paintings to
fund raisers all in her first year of her new experience in the world
of art.
